After a week that almost destroyed me, the tasting cape is (happily) back on this weekend.
I’m settling in with Vasse Felix’s Heytesbury Chardonnay, which has won more silverware over the past few years than Thorpie in his heyday (though apparently it has now retired from the wine show circuit).
Fittingly, this is in good form. In fact, I’ve only got one gripe here, and that is the slight leanness. I’ve seen a few slightly anaemic ’12 Marg’s Chardonnays actually, which is intriguing considering that it was a hot and early vintage. Obviously the push is on to make more acid driven wines, but there comes a point when it comes at the expense of flavour.
