Thomas Wines Kiss Shiraz 2013
There are two simple reasons why this works:
a) It has the swish and polish of new age Hunter Shiraz.
b) Yet still retains big spoonfuls of Hunter earth and is mid weight at its core.
Done. Review over. Let’s go to the pub.
Seriously though, this is top Kiss, from a top vintage, in good form.
Bright, deep purple. Deeply imprinted rich fruit with very sexy oak, the silky smooth, oak massaged palate is dry, smooth and long, exactly what you’d expect of a top wine in a top vintage, the tannins a fine sandpaper to finish.
The only criticism here is that there is plenty of creamy oak which means it is several years off top drinking. Otherwise two thumbs up. Drink 2015-2030. 18.5/20, 94/100
Details: 13.6%, Screwcap, $60, Sample
Would I buy it? Yes. But I’d drink it in a few years time, not in the next 12 months.
