Montalto Estate Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir 2015
Smart, ripe year Pinot from a Mornington producer very much in the zone.
Dark plum red, this has juicy red raspberry fruit in an open, classic Mornington form. Delicious. Perhaps a little more round this vintage, but hard to argue with the appeal. Oak a definite stamp of vanilla behind the fruit, though I didn’t see it as a negative. Just an element. It’s not unserious either, with a late inflection of tannic bitterness for good measure.
Quality Pinot at every turn – much to like.
Best drinking: 2016-2022. 18/20, 93/100. 13.6%, $50. Would I buy it? I’d go a bottle for sure.
