Paul Mas Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Paul Mas Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2011 (France)
13.5%, Screwcap, $6.99
Source: Sample

A Dan Murphy exclusive apparently, the most importantly thing to notice is the price. $6.99 is cask wine territory and this is better than cask wine.

Maroon/ruby red coloured, this has a slightly ashen, fractionally underripe nose, suggesting some mixed ripeness. Plummy, light palate is broad, shapeless but still has plummy fruit, a suggestion of oak (shavings/extract etc) finishing with raspy, slightly unripe tannins and meaty wooly flavours to finish. Hard edged but not offensive, this has some Cabernet leafy character and just enough fruit to be not terrible. Which is all you can ask for in a $7 red really.

Drink: 2013-204
Score: 14/20 79/100
Would I buy it? No. But I’m hardly the target market.
