A change in vintage and suddenly we have a ball game. This was fermented in both new and old oak.

Dark colour for a cheap red, this smells quite leafy and varietal, if in an open style. Dry, quite savoury palate has almost smoky cool edges, drying tannins and sappy acidity. Really quite serious, if a bit foursquare and probably not quite generous enough for the pricepoint. Pretty smart for $17!

Drink: 2013-2016
Score: 16.8/20 89/100
Would I buy it? No, but we’re getting closer.
