I keep saying ‘pepper-lilly’ but this isactually ‘pepper-ill-y’. IImagine they get ‘Pepperlilly’ all the time.
Anyways, this is a good value red. A juicy, honest blend of Mourvèdre (50%), Grenache (35%) and Shiraz (15%) sourced from the little heralded Ferguson Valley – a beautiful part of WA known as rich dairy country and a handy place to grow grapes, as well as the home of a gnome sanctuary…
There’s richness all through this wine really – a dark purple to boysenberry red coloured, mid-weight red with pulpy red fruits on the nose wand that meaty licorice twist of Mourvèdre. Plenty of sweet oak and sweet fruit, but also something deeper and more guttural. It’s a little plump and somewhat warm and confected, yet there is still real tannins and no sense of excess manipulation in the winery – just good ripe fruit.
