I’m pleasantly surprised by these 2011 Pyren reds, the cool vintage giving the wines a more herbal accent than in some years, yet they still retain detail.

This blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot certainly looks a bit light light and minty, but refreshing too – like a cool year Bordeaux, yet obviously with the extra richness of the Pyrenees. It’s a little short and the oak sits on top but it does feel focused and real. Good light red, if just lacking the ripeness and stuffing for big love.

Drink: 2013-2020
Scorre: 16.5/20, 88/100
Would I buy it? A glass or so would about do me. But it would be an enjoyable glass.
