Tasted blind in a lineup of McLaren Vale Shiraz and then checked again after a day in the fridge.
It took a while for this RSW to really show its best and even then it looked a bit angular. Less angular than the Vicar, but still hardly the most approachable of RSW vintages.

If anything this looks rather sullen, the nose clearly defined but definitely less ‘jump out of the glass richness this year. In fact, you can see a hint of leaf, a dash of cinnamon and plenty of pepper in there, the palate intensely flavoured yet not all that fruit rich (just flavour rich, if you get my drift). That intensity is more than admirable really, but the wine is still down-tempo and capped off with slightly raspy acidity.
A wine that could do with a little more generosity, though is very well made and sufficiently well built (and powerful) that it deserves respect.

Would I buy it? No.
