Soumah Single Vineyard Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2014
I tasted this alongside the Alkoomi Chardonnay and enjoyed both. This edged it out in the complexity stakes, but pleasure to compare and contrast the two, especially given that the winemaking looks similar.
This Soumah Chardonnay was wild fermented and went through partial MLF, before 8 months maturation in 25% new oak. TA 7.5. pH 3.41.
It smells delicious. Musky, old school aftershave and creamy vanilla funk with some sulphide wildness. Dusty, slightly lean palate has outstanding, soda water-esque sparkling freshness before a slightly warming finish.
Quality style and has a real tang. Love the lean-but-full style here, with more complexity every sip. Lovely wine. Best drinking: 2016-2020. 18/20, 93/100

Would I buy it? I’d share a bottle.
