The latest from the Pirates and selling fast (apparently). I’ve smashed through six cans of this over the last week or so and gee I’m a big fan – only challenge is that the cans are a bit small…
A combo of Munich, Crystal and Pale Ale malts with a combo of Simcoe, Centennial and Riwaka hops, this is a classically aromatic IPA. Big herbal pine needle aromatics with just enough grainy malt richness. It’s not offensively bitter and, while hop driven, seems well balanced.
Big fan. Five stars. 6.8% alc. Best before: 16/01/17

Hi Andrew, it’s a mighty fine IPA and a great addition to the Pirate Life range. They can do little wrong right now. With GABS coming up do you use the untappd App to track all the other beers you try but don’t have time/inclination to do full posts on?
I’m an Untappd voyeur – useful for finding info and trends but not posted myself.
On the topic, favourite IPA’s at the moment Glenn?
I’m easily ‘coerced’ into Imperial / Double IPAs, especially those from the US West Coast (Stone, Lagunitas, Drakes, Russian River, Rogue) and of the Aussie Imperial / Doubles etc really liking those from Riverside (‘777’, Othello’s Curse), Holgate (Milenium Falcon), 4 Pines and Bridge Road (Bling Bling). For the more widely available, and lower cost (compared to Doubles), craft IPA options you could do a lot worse than Modus Operandi’s Zoo Feeder (& Former Tenant for a red ale), Fixation’s IPA, Big Shed’s Californicator, Ekim’s range (try the Grapefruit IPA!) , Feral’s War Hog and just about any of The Little Brewing Company’s range. More than an esky full – and a little hard to sneak into the footy in a thermos.
Ha! Quality esky that would be too.
I’ve got the Little Brewing Co. Citra IPA on the way this week. Excellent. Must try the Ekim’s and the Fixation next.
Agree AG, the Pirate team are kicking serious goals at the moment. Took a six pack of the Pale round to a mates place in Canberra on the weekend and they were blown away.
So I went and got me a can (yes, 1 can) of the Pale Ale. Bingo! What a great beer. An instant classic in our house. I personally find too many Aussie Pale Ales unbalanced. The biscuity crunch and the hoppy grip on this fits my palate beautifully. Hurrah!
Awesome! Can delight!
