Sunshine Creek Yarra Valley Chardonnay 2013
Old school Yarra Chardonnay, but done well. Sunshine Creek is a new name but based on the established Martha’s Vineyard at Yarra Glen. Old school packaging, but it feels like quality. This spent 12 months in barrel.
Green straw coloured, this is all yellow peaches and toast, the nose showing a big oak and lots of ripe fruit imprint. Rich and peachy palate, the oak makes less of an impression than expected after the nose but it’s there. Still a big mouthful of yellow peach flavour, though, and alcohol/acidity balance looks solid. Entirely drinkable and better than last year. Best drinking: 2016-2021. 17.7/20, 92/100. 14%, $45. Would I buy it? A few glasses.
