Montalto Estate Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay 2015

Montalto Estate Mornington Peninsula Chardonnay 2015

Montalto are doing very good things of late. Every egg is a bird.

This Chardonnay is very clever. Green straw coloured, this has a tight, picture-perfect Chardonnay nose of green melon and white peach. Tight as. Real Goldilocks ripeness here, the flavours grapefruity and primary but hinting at much more. Importantly, this has flavour but no shortage of acidity, the finish precise, the length excellent.

Perhaps the only negative here is that it is still way too young – it’s a pup, complete with some banana ‘just bottled’ esters. But the balance is absolutely spot on. Excellent modern Chardonnay in an acid driven – but not anaemic – style. Best drinking: 2017-2022. 18.5/20, 94/100. 13.3%, $42. Would I buy it? Absolutely.
