Windowrie The Mill Central Ranges Shiraz 2015
So this recently picked up three trophies at the 2016 NSW Wine Awards inc. Best Shiraz, Best Dry Red & Wine of The Year. Not a bad haul for a $20 wine.
You can see why it stood out in a wine show lineup – it’s just bursting with musky red plum fruits, with a liberal serve of chocolatey and a dollop of pepper.
It’s hearty, it’s juicy, and packs in lots of slightly musky upfront fruit, even though the warm finish falls away as it lacks the concentration to carry it much further.
Handy, simple drinking for $17/bottle direct from the winery. I don’t see the depth beyond that, but many will enjoy the flavour here.
Best drinking: 2016-2020. 16.5/20, 88/100. 14.5%, $20. Would I buy it? Not personally.
