Mandala Butterfly Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Mandala Butterfly Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

Classic Yarra Cabernet from a vintage prime for delivering the odd finessed wine. It’s like the Yarra’s version of a luncheon claret, just riper and more immediately attractive. There’s HB pencil, blackcurrant juiciness and then an elegant and slightly lean palate. It flaunts with greenness, particularly via the meaty tipped tannins, but it’s never hard. It maybe needs a little more detail and depth to be great, but you can guarantee that it will fill out in the bottle.

Best drinking: You can open it now, but the best years are at least half a decade away. 17.7/20, 92/100+. 13%, $50. Would I buy it? I’d drink it if not quite open the wallet.
