Tim Smith Eden Valley Viognier 2018

Easily one of the best Viognier in the country, although it’s a shallow pool as so many producers get the V-weed so wrong. What I like about Tim’s wine is that it delivers the broad, stonefruit-laden middle palate I want in a Viognier, with enough snappy acidity to keep you happy. Actually, all of Tim’s wines have a fleshiness to them. It’s what you want (or I want) in most Barossan wines (except the Riesling).

Anyway, this Viognier is set in a rounder mould this year, but genuinely enjoyable thanks to the fresh, lightly phenolic finish. This is one of the few Aussie Viognier that I could actually drink. Best drinking: I like it now, or over the next 2 years. 18.5/20, 94/100. 13.5%, $25. Would I buy it? Yes yes.
