While not quite in the same echelon as the Mataro, this Thorn-Clarke Single Vineyard Selection Grenache 2018 is handy drinking.
From the ‘Old Vine Block’ it’s all bright red raspberry Grenache fruit in a jubey, generous mode. Oak takes a back seat, it’s all juiciness with sandy tannins the style pure and vibrant. Maybe a little full on the finish (and warm) but a quintessential, simple varietal style.
Best drinking: now to ten years. 17.5/20, 91/100. 14.5%, $38. Thorn Clarke website. Would I buy it? A glass or two.
