It’s that time again…
With a wad of vouchers burning a hole in my pocket, this month I’m back on the acquisition trail, keen to replenish the cellar after hitting it (again).
What about you? What wine (and beer) are you buying this May 2021?
So far in May I’ve bought some new 2019 Standish Lamella, ’17 Kumeu River Mates Chardonnay, ’18 Bibi Graetz Testamatta and ’19 Weinbach Schlossberg Riesling…
Oh and more of the new White Bay Brewing Co. Heaps Deep IPA (which is heaps good).
There’s still a Champagne shaped hole in the cellar, and I really should be buying more 2019 German Riesling.
What about you?

De Salis wines from Orange and the two Hefeweisens from Mountain Culture Brewing in Katoomba.
Snap. I have a Mountain Culture NEIPA in the fridge. Great beers.
Picking up a few beechworth drops to try – domenica, fighting gully and eldorado road.
Had giaconda at a tasting the other week and savaterre at a dinner so keen to see quality of the more affordable options
Well, thankfully I don’t have a champagne sized hole in the cellar at the moment! We seem to be swimming in champagne. Having recently sold then bought a new house, ‘free’ champagne is flowing. 😉 Roederer and Pommery seem to be the real estate agent tipples of choice…
As we head into another lockdown in Melbs, I asked my local wine shop to put together a mixed case of red wine for me. In amongst that are some interesting wines I’m looking forward to trying, including some Pinot: Giant Steps, Nanny Goat and Ghost Rock; and a Beechworth Estate Tempranillo.
I also have a Burgundy taunting me in the cupboard which I may have to crack open on my birthday next week – another birthday in lockdown! (I pity my fellow Gemini kids who can’t have their friend around). The Burgundy is a Domaine Gros and Frere & Soeur from 2017.
Looking forward to moving to the country later in July…
I like the Pinot lineup in that box too.
Re: Real Estate Champagne. Always fascinating to see what the calibre of wine is that comes out. If it was me, I’d buy some (inexpensive but good) grower Champagne to give an air of being far more sophisticated. Laherte Freres, JM Seleque, Rene Geoffroy, Pierre Gimmonet etc etc.
Love the Giant Steps wines – Pinot and Harrys Monster especially. Also some of the 2019 shiraz and Grenache from Hayes Family Wines in the Barossa are great. Also just loaded up on some more from Rockford.
The Mornington Winter Wine Festival has unfortunately been delayed till 24th July where I am especially interested in what Dexter, Hurley and Scorpo have to offer in their latest releases, as well as any new surprises
some magnums of 2018 Mount Pleasant 1946 and 1880 vines Shiraz… and some 2018 Blue Poles Allouran
I need more magnums in my life. Love it.
Pretty much anything from Jura & the Loire that isn’t too expensive. A bit obsessed with those regions atm
