I like these Masterstroke wines. Hearty. Substantial. Intriguing that this Taylors Masterstroke Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 feels more balanced than the St Andrews Cab tasted in the big dog Shiraz & Cabernet masterclasses last week too. The Coonawarra advantage? Or am I just grumpy? You choose.
It’s certainly a proudly regional style. You’ve got to like a bit of mint on nose and palate, but there’s an expanse of dark berry fruit and firm long tannins. It’s like a classic Wynns Cabernet, albeit a ripe year version. If there was a wine to impress your big red loving uncle, this is it.
Best drinking: good now, better in 2025, still alive in the mid 2030s. 18/20, 93/100. 14%, $60. Taylors website. Would I buy it? I’d share a bottle.
