Hello and welcome to buttery old-school Chardonnay land, with today’s feature wine – the Heggies Estate Chardonnay 2019 – a picture of Chardy of yore.
It’s not OTT in a late 90s Rosemount Roxburgh Chardonnay (now there is some memories) way, but toast and oak and yellow peach and flavour in abundance. A golden yellow wine for the synesthetes. The oak tannins get a bit grating after a while, but this shows a style often forgotten in our modern age of flavourless Grigio. The crisp ‘hello from Eden Valley’ finish helps things along too. Good.
Best drinking: oh now. Don’t wait. 17/20, 90/100. 13%, $35. Heggies website. Would I buy it? A glass or so.
