Sapling Yard Lake George Riesling 2022

The freshness of Sapling Yard’s Lake George Riesling 2022

Outside of the Shiraz Viognier, this Sapling Yard Lake George Riesling 2022 is my favourite release from Canberra newcomer Sapling Yard, and it captures the Canberra Riesling style (that I love) so well.

Sourced from the Lake George Vineyard, which is, you guessed it, on the sides of the extremely odd (and currently full) Lake George. This Riesling looks extremely youthful, too – an ultra-fresh, water-clear greenish thing with that smells of lime juice with a little jasmine, leading to a tight, mouthwatering and wonderfully intense palate. It’s a little on the green and crunchy side of the fruit fence (which might be divisive), but not unripe – just lovely freshness topped off with chalky, lightly lip-tingling acidity. Tasty.

Best drinking: good now. 18/20, 93/100. 11%, $30. Sapling Yard website. Would I buy it? Sure would.
