Another day, another classic Coonawarra red from Sam Brand. Hunt around, and you might find the Jim Brand Silent Partner Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 closer to $30 a bottle, too – at which price it’s more than handy with all that Coonawarraness.
Blackberry and a bit of cassis are the markers here – definitely the blackberry pomp of ripe Coonawarra Cab. The palate has this sticky, ripe blackness to it, complete with brooding tannins. A pretty wine, it’s probably not but that’s the appeal – dark, firmish, hearty, substantial, a little sweet and sour, but uncompromising in the length of fruit and defining tannins.
More than solid.
