Want an example of the best in Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc? Enter the Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc 2022. Now with the second generation of the Sutherland family running the show, this certified organic (which you wouldn’t know looking at the label) white is simply on another plain of intensity and definition compared to so much of the unbalanced dross that clogs up the Sauvignon Blanc fridge in this country.
It smells of passionfruit and super intense grapefruit – a certain tropical grassy punch that feels like Marlborough distilled (and more than just cat wee thiols). Excellent palate drive, with a stonefruit jab of fruit that is pretty powerful (and powerfully dry). Lots of people may simply dismiss it ‘another Marlborough Sauv’, but this is a Sauvignon archetype, even from a lean vintage like 2022.
Oh, and it will live too!
