We’re getting to that time when everyone buys/drinks Champagne, even if they only do it once just once a year. And with this Marie de Moy Brut Champagne Brut NV, Aldi has lobbed up a real trolley filler.
That’s because this fizz will give the proper Champagne experience, and it’s just $32.99 – aka almost half the equivalent Piper/Moet et al. There’s all the usual Champagne DNA, too – it smells of Pinot Noir/Meunier red fruit, Aramis aftershave and whipped cream leesy notes, and then more curranty red fruit on a refreshing and entirely correct palate.
It’s hardly a profound wine, as the intensity falls away through the palate and especially on the finish (so I’m not going to move the Veuve Fourny out of the wine fridge). But no doubt about it, this is very convincing for $32.99.
