Pewsey Vale Riesling, the iconic Eden Valley white wine, still doesn’t need the residual sugar. Which, ultimately, makes this off-dry Prima – with its 25 g/L of sweetness – a non-event. But hey, let’s take a look anyway. The balance is actually pretty good, and maybe I’m just a grump, as it’s now more juicy than sweet. It smells of celery and grapefruit citrus but with a riper something below the surface. The palate gets expansive fast with a talc-covered lime drizzle flavour that gets juicier and more playful at every sip. I got tired of the sweetness fast, though – it ended up just a smidgen candied. Quality wine, no doubt, which is reflected in the silver medal score, but drier is better.
