Tasmania is the promised land for Australian wine. It feels like every week, another delicious wine from the Apple Isle crosses the Australian Wine & Drinks Review desk. Today, it’s the Southwood White Kangaroo Pinot Noir 2022. Close watchers will know the Southwood Wines have been well received here, and the new Kangaroo bounced in with finesse and delicacy.
It’s Coal River Valley fruit for this Pinot from a vineyard named after the road that leads to the Campania Vineyard. Like all of the Southwood wines, this is so juicy and yet lithe – the picture of ripe fruit and moderation. A little mulchy whole bunch spice, beetroot, cranberry, a little purple fruit. Plenty of acidity. A real sense of brightness and yet ripe fruit in that almost Shiraz-like Tasmanian way. A win.
