Blackstone Paddock Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

Blackstone Paddock Margaret River Cabernet Sauvignon 2022

I’m working through some Aldi-exclusive wines this month, with plenty of value highlights in the collection. This is a thickset Margaret River Cabernet from the Aldi lineup that feels plush and chunky. Lots of dark, dried blackberry flavour, a eucalyptus edge, a thick lacquer of oak and then minty, slightly short tannins. It’s a big wine and a round wine, but largely through the mid-palate rather than being long. That plushness is bound to be popular, even if it’s a bit diffuse.

    THE VERDICT

  • Best drinking: over the next five years
  • Score (out of 20): 17
  • Score (out of 100): 90
  • Alcohol %: 14.5
  • RRP (in $AUD): 19.99
  • Winery website: https://www.aldi.com.au/
  • Would I buy it?: Worth a glass

  1. It’s a bit frustrating that Aldi in SA doesn’t sell wine. I used to love trying my luck finding a mid week surprise bargain.

Try the Rioja Marques del Atrio 2017 at $12.99 a bottle – it’s an authentic expression of the variety and bargain
