Not just the [yellow tail] winemakers, the Casella family have become unlikely saviours in recent years, picking up a swag of underappreciated estates (like Morris and Baileys) and giving them some love.
e’Stellar Estate, the new Yarra Valley project, has a Casella name behind it too, but this time it’s Joe Casella (rather than John, who drives the Casella Family Brands). Joe and Cathy Casella purchased Graeme Miller’s Dixons Creek Estate in 2017, and then added the original Mandala Vineyard next door, creating e’Stellar from the merged estate.
Martin Siebert, the man behind the First Foot Forward brand (and who made Tokar Estate great), is GM of the new e’Stellar operation, which is even better news. Martin can deliver delicacy and deftly handled Yarra wines, let alone being a good human.
Put it all together, and you can see why, when the fancy textured labelled samples of this new name dropped at AWDR HQ, it came with promise.
Let’s see how they taste…
