With vines now over 40 years old Alkoomi is unquestionably one of the stalwarts of Frankland River, with Riesling amongst the wineries top performing varieties.
2012 was a notably warm and early vintage in Great Southern, though you wouldn’t know it by this early picked wine, which smells of celery, cucumber and understated melon fruit, with just a hint of sherbet to give away that it was such a warm summer. It tastes neutral and dry too, bristling with crunchy grapefruit acidity, the shy fruit not able to compete (as yet).
Ultimately the form is pretty good here, but it’s still an awkward drink for now.
