Katnook Cabernet Sauvignon 2011

Ouch. Absolutely a product of the season this one, the cool and wet vintage written large, Still, it’s not terrible, just a bit too light for the price.

I had this in a large blind lineup and initially was convinced that it might be a Tassie Cabernet such was the acidity and lightness. When it was unveiled i was fair amazed – suffice to say this ain’t your usual thick set and oaky Katnook Cabernet…

Light and fragrant – a faint whiff of herbs and sticks and wood. Underneath it’s elegant and unforced but there is an unmistakable pepper and herbs skinniness to everything, the acid high, the tannins low, the overall impression that of a cheaper, lighter Cabernet than befits this wines reputation. It’s actual well made considering the vintage, with lightness and a deft oak touch, but still I can’t say I’d recommend it.
