Pizzini Pinot Grigio 2013 (King Valley, Vic)
11.5%, Screwcap, $18.50 cellar door
Clean, varietal, vital and smashable Pinot Grigio for under $20? Yes please.
This has all of the freshness and chalky phenolics that you want in archetypal Grigio with just enough of that white pear flesh. It’s still a simple Grigio, with the emphasis more on smashability than complexity (so no barrel work etc. Just neutral fruit), but this would kill many a pretentious Italian Grigio for flavour, price and freshness.
Easy recommendation.

Would I buy it? If I was looking for Pinot Grigio (which is almost never) this would be a natural choice..
