Lethbridge Pinot Noir 2011

Lethbridge Pinot Noir 2011 (Geelong, Vic)
13%, Screwcap, $40

‘It is in the difficult years that skill in both viticulture and winemaking is actually required’.

Wise words on the bottle of this Lethbridge. Actually, the wordy Lethbridge labels are always worth a read – honest and clever.

This wine, in context, is something of a success too. Sure, it’s pale, sappy and a little more simple than the usual Lethbridge style, but it makes the most of the season.

There’s a real fleshy ripeness all through this actually, the acidity raised but never anything more than fresh. It could perhaps do with more power and the oak provides a noticeable vanilla stamp. There’s purple juiciness too, if not the tannic drive of other years.
Ultimately a cleverly built wine to be proud of given the vintage.
