All old oak, this was matured in 3 French + 1 American oak hogsheads. Fruit comes from Seaview in McLaren Vale.
The joy here starts immediately – it smells exceptionally good. Super varietal too, plus distinc of McLaren Vale. Black plums, jelly beans and tarry black fruit with a fragrance unencumbered by oak. Saturated, medium weight palate, medium drying tannins and a real driving finish.
That lack of oak has delivered a seriously impressive wine, mid weight but with loads of energy – the tannins are a little light compared to some Montefalco perhaps, but the overall effect works.
