Schwarz Wine Co. Meta Barossa Shiraz 2013

This is the most modern version of a Schwarz Shiraz, using hand picking, wild ferments and some whole bunch action. Just 1030 bottles produced. It snuck up on me this Shiraz. At first I dismissed it, but the closer I looked, the more I appreciated the more reserved, mid-weight style here. It is just a little jammy for 13.7% alcohol, but the genuine attempt at a more savoury, detailed form has delivered a pretty smart wine.

Good.

Details: 13.7%, Screwcap
Tasted: May 2015 (sample)
Best drinking: 2015-2025
Score: 17.7/20, 92/100
Would I buy it? A glass would do.

  1. Out of interest Andrew, where do you get your wines that you review from? Do they get sent in or do you buy most?

    1. A combination of sources really – samples and wines poured at events/tastings making up the bulk, purchased wines the rest. If something is a sample or tasted at an event I disclose it in the 'tasted' line of the review.
