Chapel Hill McLaren Vale Mourvèdre 2013

I’ve never noticed winemaker Bryn Richard’s name on the back of a Chapel Hill bottle. Hi Bryn. Handy cyclist he is too, holding a few high Strava placings across the beachfront at Port Willunga (near McLaren Vale).

Anyway, this red again shows the rustic appeal of Mourvedre. Sure, it’s hardly going to be called sexy, not with it’s furry, meaty and rustic characters, but there’s also a nice flush of berries to complement all that firm structure and hearty tannic drive.

This has a place. It’s quite uncompromising and awkward, but will also live forever. Drink: 2017-2032. 17/20, 90/100

Details: 14.5%, Screwcap, $30, Sample
Would I buy it? I’d drink a glass. Needs a decant though.
