Artwine Grumpy Old Man Clare Valley Grenache 2014

Artwine Grumpy Old Man Clare Valley Grenache 2014

From a vineyard that dates back to the 1930s and likely older than that. What a great resource to have! Oh and what do you think of the label on this by the way (have a squizz here)? I’m unconvinced – just a bit dull.

Red ruby coloured, the nose has some baked red cherry fruit, with some ironstone underneath. Milky oak sweetness sits on top of the palate against a backdrop of red fruit, the finish just a little warm and tight to be great. A bit generic really. Less oak, more chance to showcase the old vine fruit surely and this might be a star. It’s not terrible, but could be much better.  Best drinking: 2016-2023. 16.5/20, 88/100. 14.5%, $30. Would I buy it? No.
