Old Jarvie ‘The Even Hand’ Grenache Shiraz Mataro 2015

Old Jarvie is the new Hither & Yon label dedicated to Admiral John Jervis, the First Earl of St Vincent (whom South Australia’s Gulf of St Vincent was named after). That sounds obtuse, perhaps, but the packaging is cool and these McLaren Vale wines are very good.

The story here is all about juicy Grenache. Liquid redcurrant in a slightly syrupy form, with flashes of vanilla and a warm finish. Love the bright fruit and concentration is very good. A little more focus and this would be even better still. Best drinking: 2016-2024. 17.5/20, 91/100. 14.5%, $30. Would I buy it? I’d go a few glasses for sure.
