Alkoomi Frankland River Sauvignon Blanc 2016

Alkoomi know how to make well priced wines, typically without fanfare, and this is another solid release in the ‘oh yes, this is good wine for the dollars’ camp.

Sourced from a single block of estate Sauvignon with 30% of the juice barrel fermented. You can see the hints of barrel action on the palate, adding layers. Otherwise it is a fresh wine, the nose all passsionfruit and grapefruit in a ripe but contained cool style. That ‘just ripe’ character delivers a wine that remains light and crisp, yet still with flavour and no hard acidity.

It’s easy to dismiss this as just another fresh, simple, primary Sauv (and it is), but the balance here makes this worth another look.

Best drinking: 2016-2018. 17/20, 90/100. 12.5%, $24. Would I buy it? Worth a glass or two.
