Hentley Farm Black Beauty Sparkling Shiraz 2016 disgorgement

What a great name for a sparkling Shiraz. You can’t see it very well in my crap photo, but this comes in excellent packaging too, complete with a cloth-like label and bell-bottomed bottle. Beauty!

A real decadent wine this. Has that western Barossan opulence to it, the style ultra rich and chocolatey, with lots of sweet and sour flavour with a big chocolate punch. No hiding the Barossan Shiraz identity here. It’s hardly a subtle wine, and the oak is omnipresent, but that just adds to the richness and weight.

I’m a fan. Best drinking: 2017-2030. 18/20, 93/100. 14%, $62. Would I buy it? A Christmas bottle maybe.

  1. Andrew,

Doesn’t sound like it’s quite a contender for the Joseph ?
I get the impression this one lacks a point or two of finesse ?

    1. A step or two behind the Joseph – lacks the balance and complexity. Lavish Barossan sparkling Shiraz style though, in a style that will always be well received.
