Domaine Chanson Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes 2014

Backward (and superb) 1er Cru Burgundy from Chanson

Domaine Chanson Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Chenevottes 2014

Much has been written about the glories of the 2014 white Burgundy vintage, and I’m here to say believe the hype. Oh and Chanson have had a great few years too – this is classic stuff.

In fact, the only thing needed here is patience. Despite the 13.5% alcohol this looks very backward, the vaguely spicy oak sitting over a blindingly acidic, grapefruit and lemon juice powered palate. What power! There’s almost Chablis leanings in this leaner style and yet it’s perfectly ripe. Great now, will be even more glorious in 2 years time. Best drinking: 2018-2023. 18.5/20, 94/100+. 13.5%, $150ish. Would I buy it? Absolutely. White Burgundy is wonderful.
