Margan Shiraz 2016
Classically proportioned Hunter Valley Shiraz. Easy to overlook wines like this, but they’ll always satisfy. Sweet plum earth, some background oak sweetness, plenty of acidity and a plummy savouriness. The appeal here is the well-weighted, savoury yet still fruit rich core and earthy (but not dirty) Hunter style. Not everyone likes this style, but I’m a fan. Best drinking: Good now, good in a decade. 17.5/20, 91/100. 13.5%, $25. Would I buy it? A few glasses would go nicely.
