Rouleur Pinot Noir 2017
Matt East’s superb Shiraz made my Top 10 Shiraz list a few months ago, and now the Yarra Pinot Noir lobs up and it’s a beauty. I’ve tried this twice now and it just gets better.
From Gladysdale and Macclesfield, it’s a perfect illustration of the limpid freshness and vitality that characterises ’17 Yarra Pinot. Vibrant raspberry fruit aplenty in a light and pure mode, the flavours suggest more ripeness than the modest alcohol, with a character that Matt describes as ginger (and I like). 30% whole bunches in one parcel which helps give this some drive and tannins to finish. Real tension and lovely bright red fruit. A win.
Best drinking: Now or up to five years time. 18.5/20, 94/100. 12.9%, $28.80 direct in 6 pack. Would I buy it? Mad value at those dollars. I’ve had many a $50 Yarra Pinot that sits behind this wine. Buy.
