Campbells Classic Rutherglen Muscat NV
While the world has (slowly) caught on to the absurd quality of Rutherglen Muscat, they’re still underpriced, especially at Classic level. Campbells are one of the originals, and it shows with this quality drink. Toffee brown orange, the nose sweetly raisined but not dried out, the palate densely sweet and unctuous but doesn’t lack acidity. There is this coffee fudge density through the middle that makes it, and it’s lighter and fresher than you can imagine. Lovely, well balanced and such a good drink. The only thing missing is the extra complexity and endless blackness you see in Grand or Rare. Winner. Best drinking: Now. 18/20, 93/100 (note – with no bottling date the score is just indicative). 17.5%, $38. Would I buy it? Sure would.

It is worth noting the passing of Colin Campbell in May. Sad for the region and the family, and I hope they can continue to produce outstanding fortifieds without him.
Agree Paul. A Rutherglen legend.
