Way back in the time before COVID19 rendered the events industry null and void, I used shapely Eden Riesling like this Thorn-Clarke Single Vineyard Selection Riesling 2019 in tastings as a poster child for why everyone should drink more dry Riesling.
Drawn from a vineyard at Mt Crawford, the appeal here is the purity. Taut acidity, super intense lime juice on nose and palate, the compact palate dry, svelte and unadulterated. It tastes fresh. Feels fresh. Feels right. There’s just a little X factor missing on the back end, but you can see that coming in time. The composure otherwise is assured, the acid just right. Delicious wine.
Best drinking: Enjoyable now, and will look even better as an aged release. I’d wait and open as a five year old. 18/20, 93/100+. 11%, $28. Would I buy it? Worth a bottle.
