My fam absolutely smashed this Running With Bulls Tempranillo 2019 on the weekend. The bottle was opened on Friday, still looked great on Saturday night too. No surprises either – it’s exactly what well-priced and varietal Australian Tempranillo should taste like.
Meanwhile, my intro from the last vintage rings true here yet again. When is the Tempranillo wave going to hit? Wines like this show the promise.
This might be the best Running With Bulls Tempranillo too. All Barossa fruit, it plays the line between exuberant fruit and more substantial milk chocolate + new leather + raspberry mode so nicely, and complete with the right amount of tannins for the price/quality juncture (ie they exist, but not harsh). Indeed, this is a smashable/gluggable wine yet it’s not conceited, the fruit is concentrated, the finish plenty long enough.
It’s just a perfectly well made young and juicy red. I’m a fan. Best drinking: go now. It may get better, but why bother? 17.7/20, 92/100. 14%, $23. Would I buy it? Worth sharing a bottle.
