Yalumba has been right at the forefront of the Grenaissance, with a whole smorgasbord of wines celebrating old vines, just like this very serious Yalumba Vine Vale Grenache 2018,
From a vineyard at Vine Vale planted in 1949. Soft, syrupy, gently raspberried ripe style with this darker streak through the back end. It’s just a bit drying to be seductive, but the savoury finish does give this a certain heartiness too. It’s long, layered, and that fruit/tannin combo is unquestionably appealing. Good stuff. 17.7/20, 92/100.
Yalumba Vine Vale Grenache 2018. Best drinking: approachable now, even better next year. 17.7/20, 92/100. 13.5%, $40. Yalumba website. Would I buy it? Two glasses.
