If there is one wine that always picks up bags of bling on the show circuit, it is this Ringbolt Cabernet Sauvignon 2019. From the extended Samuel Smith & Son (the group behind Yalumba) family, this Margaret River Cabernet is always reliable varietal in every way – and the 2019 doesn’t disappoint.
Roll out all the Margs straight Cabernet characters. Bay leaf, lead pencil, mint, dark berries. All of it. This isn’t a seduction machine though, it’s a little raw and tannic. Notably, they’re not silken tannins – too minty for that – but the length and intensity is excellent. It’s a firm, long, powerful if slightly angular Cabernet that will live and evolve that I’ve seen for as little as $21 a bottle. A steal at that price.
Ringbolt Cabernet Sauvignon 2019. Best drinking: if you can wait, you will be rewarded. Drink over the next ten years, otherwise decant before drinking. 17.7/20, 92/100. 14%, $28. Ringbolt website. Would I buy it? Well worth a bottle.
