Right, so here is an example of a rosé that is not shit to start my dive into the blush wine pile.
Dom ‘Midas’ Torzi can make magic happen with all sorts of grapes (oh, and olives), here he has spun Barossa/Eden Valley Sangiovese into a proper rosé AND with no sulphur added.
*insert wine glass doing a hat tip emoji*
Seriously, this Torzi Matthews Francesca Grillo Rosato di Sangiovese 2022 sits upright on the generosity and freshness balance beam, with pink grapefruit, forest berries, a little leafy tang, the lot. Dry, riper, not harsh, varietal, and soft-edged. Has a whisper of fruit tingle and some leafy lift, all of which makes it more than just another pink wine. It’s not super complex (not going to win gold medals), but that’s kinda the point – just drink it.
Best drinking: now. 17.7/20, 92/100. 13%, $28. Torzi Matthews website. Would I buy it? Yes.
