The Other Wine Co. was first established as an arm of the Shaw & Smith empire that went beyond the S & S Adelaide Hills regulars, with an aim to deliver maximum drinkability for lowish prices. Here, the label lobs up a winner, too, with The Other Wine Co. Grenache 2020 a McLaren Vale red of instant appeal. Light ruby, the sunny raspberry fruit drives this incredibly easy – but still substantial – Grenache. Open raspberry fruit, minimal tannins, just a little mulchy edges, it absolutely glides down in its ripe, yet contained mid-weight form with admirable depth for 13.5% alcohol. An absolute bargain at this price too.
Best drinking: good now. 17.7/20, 92/100. 13.5%, $27. The Other Wine Co. website. Would I buy? Worth a few glasses.

I always thought it was seen as a dumping ground for things that don’t fit the elite brief. In the early days of shaw and smith there was an “incognito” label that was pretty average.
Some of the releases are just ok. Many recent wines are pretty smart – espcially Pinot & Grenache
Agree, the Pinot has often been excellent. Rumour has it one vintage was declassified Tolpuddle Tassie Pinot
