Review: Yalumba Samuel’s Collection Eden Valley Viognier 2021

The second top wine of Yalumba’s Viognier pyramid, and always smart. Do you think the ‘Samuel’s Collection’ bit is easily missed on the label of this Yalumba Samuel’s Collection Eden Valley Viognier 2021?

Yalumba Samuel’s Collection Eden Valley Viognier 2021?

What a lovely-smelling Viognier this is, with an expressive ginger and apricot punch of pure Viognier. I want that generosity to kick on through to the palate, though – it’s just a bit taut, especially on the finish. Still, a proper Viognier with flavour and character at a great price.

Best drinking: over the next few years. 17.7/20, 92/100. 13%, $28. Yalumba website. Would I buy it? Sure would.

Can’t see Mourvèdre on the Hewitt on label either. Maybe they’re too embarrassed. 90 bucks…..sheesh

    1. It’s a frustrating wine. That fruit deserves better treatment in the winery.
