The new top dog Chardonnay from Colmar Estate in Orange. It’s a best barrels blend from across the blocks. I rather prefer the more refined and taut Block 2 myself. Indeed this carries a balance between the cool grapefruit of Block 2 but with more creamy biscotti and chunky weight, as if the flavours (and ripeness) have been turned up a notch. It’s still a quality Orange Chardonnay but more obvious than its less expensive sibling.

Rant begins…. I think density and generosity in cooler years in a cold site such as Colmar in Orange should be commended. Why would you bother chasing the wishy washy emaciated Yarra styles when you can produce something of substance and flavour….. Rant over
I don’t disagree. Substance and flavour is king. My perspective here is coloured by how perfect the Block 2 looked alongside it. Balance is a fickle mistress
